Grand Canyon Industry Day for upcoming projects
Background The National Park Service (NPS) is planning several construction projects at the Grand Canyon National Park to address infrastructure needs following the Dragon Bravo wildfire. The goal of these projects is to restore and enhance critical facilities and systems, ensuring safe and reliable access to the North Rim and supporting visitor facilities. Work Details The projects include: 1. **North Rim Heavy Equipment Maintenance Facility**: Construction of a facility to store, maintain, and repair heavy equipment essential for winter access. This includes snowplows, graders, rotary plows, SnoCats, and snowmobiles. 2. **Temporary Wastewater Treatment Plant**: Installation of a temporary WWTP with a capacity of 90,000 gallons per day to support visitor facilities during upgrades of the permanent system. This includes headworks, MBR treatment units, an equalization tank, and UV disinfection system. 3. **Critical Utility Restoration**: Repair and restoration of potable water, sanitary sewer, and electrical distribution systems damaged by the wildfire. Typical work includes repairs/replacement of piping, hydrants, valves for water systems; repairs/replacement for sewer systems; and electrical system repairs including conductors and transformers. 4. **Replace South Rim Wastewater Treatment Plant**: Construction of a new 0.65 MGD Membrane Bio-Reactor WWTP including new treatment facilities and site improvements such as grading and paving. 5. **Replace North Rim Wastewater Treatment Plant**: Construction of a new 0.13 MGD Membrane Bio-Reactor WWTP with similar scope as the South Rim project. Period of Performance The projects are expected to be solicited for construction in the summer of 2026 or fall of 2027. Place of Performance Grand Canyon National Park, specifically at the North Rim and South Rim locations.
