Background The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is issuing this Invitation for Bid (IFB) to procure new woodchippers for its Division of Highway, Roadside Environmental Divisions Statewide. The woodchippers will be utilized in the storm cleanup program to efficiently grind tree limbs for disposal. This procurement is part of NCDOT's planned equipment buy and aims to establish an Agency Specific Term Contract. Additionally, the contract aligns with Governor Cooper’s Executive Order 80, which emphasizes sustainability and climate change mitigation. Work Details The contract involves the purchase of Vermeer BC 1800XL49VP woodchippers or functional equivalents. Key specifications include: 1. Capability to chip logs with a minimum diameter of 19 inches and slabs with a minimum width of 19 inches. 2. A 2,000-pound winch. 3. Complete remote-control system. 4. Instrument panel and emergency safety-stop switch at operator’s station. 5. Heavy-duty radiator with grill. 6. Swivel discharge chute with deflector. 7. Safety and maintenance decals. 8. A water-cooled diesel engine with a minimum of 170 HP that meets EPA emission standards. 9. Trailer specifications including electric brakes, safety chains, and a seven-pin flat prong RV electrical connector. Period of Performance The initial term of the contract will be three (3) years starting from the date of final contract execution, with potential extensions subject to mutual agreement. Place of Performance Delivery will occur at the NCDOT Fleet and Material Management Unit located at 4809 Beryl Road, Raleigh, NC 27606.
