Summary (Newest Update)

Background The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking to replace existing steam lines at the Salisbury Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salisbury, North Carolina. The project aims to maintain the facility's infrastructure, which is critical for heating spaces and items. The estimated construction magnitude for this project is between $2,000,000 and $5,000,000. This notice serves as a Request For Information (RFI) and does not constitute a request for proposals. Work Details The scope of work includes: 1. Demolition & Trench Work: Abatement and removal of portions of the 1965 steam line to allow for the installation of a new steam line. This involves site preparation, traffic control, trenching, and demolition/replacement of concrete sidewalk panels. Existing utilities encountered during excavation must be preserved. Roadways will be bored through with a 24-inch steel jacket installed for the new steam line connection. 2. New Work: Installation of a new steam line connecting manhole 17-B to manhole 15 within the trench created during demolition. The new line will be tested and commissioned before backfilling the trench to existing grade. The existing 1989 steam line will be decommissioned at this time, and three new manholes will be constructed along the path. 3. Existing Manholes: Reuse of one existing manhole (MH-D) with modifications for condensate and steam piping openings. Two existing manholes (MH-C & MH-10A) will be completely removed, while two others (MH-A & MH-B) will be replaced due to size constraints. 4. Existing Building Connections: New penetrations through grade walls to Buildings 16 and 17 for condensate and steam piping are required. 5. New Manholes: Five new cast-in-place concrete manholes (MH-15A, MH-15B, MH-16A, MH-17B, MH-17C) will be constructed to meet VA specifications. 6. Plumbing: Replacement of existing condensate piping with temporary discharge connections made during construction until new systems are operational. Period of Performance The estimated construction duration is 365 days from the start date. Place of Performance W.G. Hefner VAMC, 1601 Brenner Ave, Salisbury North Carolina 28144 USA.
