Background The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is seeking contractors to perform a Seismic Evaluation of Building 1 at the VA Medical Center located on La Jolla Village Drive in San Diego. The goal of this contract is to assess the structural integrity of the building, which has undergone various modifications and retrofits over the years. This evaluation is critical for ensuring the safety and functionality of the facility in accordance with seismic standards. Work Details The contractor will be responsible for conducting a Tier #3 Seismic evaluation in accordance with ASCE 41-17 protocol. Key tasks include: - Performing a computer analysis of the existing building to identify any structural deficiencies. - Developing conceptual retrofit schemes along with sketches for identified deficiencies based on five proposed goals established with a consultant. - Providing marked-up PDFs and cost estimates from a cost estimator for each retrofit scheme. - Delivering final evaluation documents that outline essential criteria for developing a scope of work document for future retrofitting, including notes, drawings, analysis, and cost estimates. The scope excludes verification of certain structural members until asbestos exposure is addressed, which will be handled in a subsequent phase during construction document preparation.
