Background The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) requires Radiation Physics Support Services for the Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Service at the Salem VA Medical Center. The goal of this contract is to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations concerning radiation protection in medical imaging. Work Details The contractor will provide services including: - Performing radiation protection surveys on all diagnostic x-ray equipment. - Providing emergency telephone consultation during working hours, with a response time of one hour for assistance requests. - Conducting annual surveys of diagnostic x-ray equipment, ensuring adherence to Joint Commission and ACR standards. - Performing acceptance testing within 24 hours after major repairs or replacements of x-ray units. - Reviewing CT protocols for optimization annually and performing dose measurements for selected protocols. - Inspecting new or relocated x-ray equipment within two business days of notification. - Providing radiation safety lectures or machine orientation as needed. - Preparing tables of patient radiation exposure based on measured data and comparing results with guidelines. - Ensuring all work is performed with the contractor's own equipment, accompanied by a current certificate of calibration.
