Disability Insurance for Residents

Background

Nassau Health Care Corporation (NHCC), also known as the NuHealth System, is a New York State public benefit corporation established under the Public Authorities Law. NHCC operates several healthcare facilities, including Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC), which serves as a tertiary care teaching hospital. The organization is committed to delivering high-quality care and advancing medical education while serving as a safety-net health system for Nassau County residents. This RFP seeks proposals from qualified insurance providers to deliver comprehensive optional Long-Term Disability (LTD) and Short-Term Disability (STD) insurance coverages for approximately 350 residents and fellows in graduate medical education programs at NUMC.

Work Details

The Selected Vendor shall provide comprehensive disability insurance coverage and administration, which includes: - Short-Term Disability (STD): Coverage designed for temporary income replacement due to illnesses, injuries, or medical conditions, including maternity leave. - Long-Term Disability (LTD): Optional coverage tailored to the unique needs of medical residents and fellows. Efficient claims adjudication process including case management and legally compliant appeals.

Customer Service

A dedicated customer service portal or call center.

Regulatory Compliance

Adherence to New York State disability laws, ERISA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.

Account Management

Assignment of an Account Manager for NUMC's GME and Human Resources administration.

Period of Performance

The anticipated schedule for this RFP includes issuance on June 15, 2026, with proposals due by July 7, 2026. The contract period will be defined upon award.

Place of Performance

The services will be performed primarily at Nassau University Medical Center located in East Meadow, NY.

Bidder Requirements

Proposers must demonstrate a minimum of three years of experience providing insurance coverage, preferably supporting non-profit organizations or public benefit corporations. They must comply with MWBE participation goals of 30% and are encouraged to include certified Minority/Women-owned Business Enterprises in their proposals.
