Construction Services for the Systemwide Elevator Modernization Project

Background

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is seeking proposals for construction services related to the Systemwide Elevator Modernization Project. This project aims to enhance the elevator systems across various stations, ensuring improved accessibility and safety for transit users. The CTA's mission is to provide safe, reliable, and efficient public transportation services in the Chicago area.

Work Details

The contractor will be responsible for replacing elevator components within existing shafts and machine rooms, including associated electrical, mechanical, and architectural finish work. The specific locations for the work include:

State Street Subway Chicago Station

Inbound & outbound mezzanine to platform (2 elevators)

State Street Subway Lake Station

Street to mezzanine (1 elevator)

State Street Subway Jackson Station

Van Buren entrance street to mezzanine & mezzanine to platform (2 elevators); Jackson entrance street to mezzanine & mezzanine to platform (2 elevators) - Dearborn Subway & Loop Elevated Clark/Lake Station: Mezzanine to street to elevated platform, outer loop (1 elevator); Mezzanine to street to elevated platform, inner loop (2 elevators); Mezzanine to subway platform (1 elevator)

Loop Elevated Washington/Wells Station

Street to mezzanine, outer loop (1 elevator) - O’Hare Line O’Hare Station: Mezzanine to platform (1 elevator) - O’Hare Line Cumberland Station: North entrance street to overhead bridge (1 elevator)

Southwest Line Midway Station

Track 1 mezzanine to platform (1 elevator); Track 2/3 mezzanine to platform (1 elevator)

Douglas Line 18th Street Station

Inbound & outbound street to platform (2 elevators). The contractor must also coordinate with other CTA projects and departments.

Period of Performance

The contract period will commence upon issuance of a Notice to Proceed and is expected to be completed within a timeline specified in the proposal. Proposals are due by August 3, 2026.

Place of Performance

The work will be performed at various locations throughout the Chicago Transit Authority's service area, specifically at designated subway and elevated train stations in Chicago.

Bidder Requirements

Proposers must demonstrate experience as a Prime Contractor on similar projects with a minimum contract value of $3 million. They must submit three public infrastructure projects completed in the last ten years that include vertical transportation components. Additionally, proposers must comply with Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) goals and provide evidence of financial responsibility.
