Background

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) of the Commonwealth of Virginia is issuing this Request for Proposal (RFP) to establish a contract for training in Behavioral Interaction and Management Techniques (BIMT). The goal is to equip workforce members with skills to reduce aggression, restraint, and seclusion in DBHDS facilities, ultimately leading to safer treatment environments. This initiative addresses the challenges posed by aggressive behaviors in psychiatric settings, aiming for trauma-informed care and effective management strategies.

Work Details

The contractor will provide comprehensive training focused on promoting safety through positive, therapeutic approaches. Key components include: - Strategies for identifying risk behaviors - Techniques for de-escalating crises through verbal and non-verbal responses - Confidence-building in decision-making regarding risk assessment - Methods for rebuilding relationships post-crisis - Recognition of stages of escalating crises - Evidence-based techniques to de-escalate risk behaviors - Best practices to reduce challenging behaviors while minimizing the use of seclusion and restraint. Additionally, the contractor must create a 'train the trainer' course for up to 120 staff members, provide training materials, maintain a database of trained employees, and track specific performance metrics related to incident capture rates and aggression incident rates.

Period of Performance

The contract will be performed over a period of one year from the date of execution by DBHDS, with options for renewal.
