Washington Elementary & Oakview Elementary Student Safety

Background

The City of Centralia is undertaking the Washington Elementary and Oakview Elementary Student Safety Project to enhance safety in the vicinity of these schools. The project aims to improve several streets, including E. Oakview Avenue, N. Tower Avenue, S. Diamond Street, Hickory Street, Field Avenue, Spruce Street, and E. Chestnut Avenue. These improvements are part of a broader initiative supported by Washington’s Climate Commitment Act, which focuses on reducing climate pollution and enhancing public health.

Work Details

The project includes various construction tasks such as roadway excavation and construction, Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) paving, installation of sidewalks, replacement and installation of ADA ramps, stormwater improvements, street lighting enhancements, striping, permanent signing, underground electrical work, and other related activities. Specific tasks include: - Roadway excavation and construction - HMA paving - Sidewalk installation - ADA ramp replacement and installation - Stormwater improvements including storm pipe installation (8” and 12” diameter) - Street lighting system installation - Traffic control measures - Various utility adjustments and connections. The engineer's estimate for this project ranges from $2.2 million to $2.6 million.

Period of Performance

The work is expected to commence immediately upon execution of the contract and must be completed within 90 working days.

Place of Performance

The project will be executed in Centralia, Washington along specified streets near Washington Elementary and Oakview Elementary.

Bidder Requirements

Bidders must provide a bid bond or certified check equal to at least 5% of the total bid amount. Contractors must also comply with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 regarding non-discrimination in contracting opportunities. Additionally, bidders are required to submit certifications regarding equal employment opportunity and compliance with prevailing wage laws.
