Summary (Newest Update)

Background The Spin Electronics Group of the Physical Measurement Laboratory requires the purchase of position encoded cryogenic nano-positioners and necessary controllers for the characterization of superconducting devices and circuits. The goal is to support research on pi-ground state Josephson junctions and test electrical performance of superconducting digital logic circuits. The equipment must operate at temperatures of 4 Kelvin and vacuum pressures of 1x10-8 Torr. Work Details The contractor shall provide a system that meets all technical specifications identified. All items must be new; used or remanufactured equipment will not be considered for award. The use of gray market components is not authorized. All line items shall be shipped in the original manufacturer’s packaging with all original documentation and software, when applicable. Line Item 0001: X Nanopositioner - Description: Nanopositioner with 20 mm range and position encoding - Quantity: Eight (8) - Technical Specifications: - Footprint: 45x45x12mm - Range: 20 mm - Maximum load: > 200 g - Material: Titanium body and ceramic bearings - Compatibility: UHV compatible - Capacitance: < 10 nF - Drive lines resistance capability: up to 100 Ohm - Encoding: Full range capacitive encoding of position - Sensor heat dissipation: < 100 nW - Repeatability: < 300 nm, unidirectional acceptable. Line Item 0002: Z Nanopositioner - Description: Z axis nano positioner with position encoding. Period of Performance The geographic location(s) the product will be delivered to or performed at Bidder Requirements All items must be new; used or remanufactured equipment will not be considered for award. The use of gray market components is not authorized for sale in the U.S. by the Contractor. Incumbent Analysis (see Incumbents section for more detail) This opportunity appears to have a confirmed incumbent and/or closely related prior contract based on recent awards for cryogenic nano-positioners. Attocube Systems received contract 1333ND25PNB680079 valued at $79,046 (03/19/25–08/31/25) for “CRYOGENIC NANO POSITIONERS,” and JPE received contract 1333ND25PNB670373 valued at $46,332 (09/08/25–01/23/26) for “OU67-25-NEW-034 CRYOGENIC NANOPOSITIONER.” The prior work titles and the current requirement for cryogenic, UHV-compatible nano-positioners with position encoding suggest continuity in the same type of equipment procurement.
