Background

The City of Fairhope, located in Baldwin County, Alabama, is undertaking a project to relocate the historic Henry Stuart House, also known as Tolstoy Park. This unique masonry structure was built in the 1920s and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. The relocation aims to preserve this culturally significant building by moving it from its current location at 22787 US Highway 98 to the Flying Creek Nature Preserve at 22430 Main Street, Fairhope, AL. The project has received support from community stakeholders and funding for the move has been secured.

Work Details

The project involves a comprehensive scope of work including: - Cleaning out the structure prior to the move (removing pipes, plumbing, ductwork). - Excavation around the existing slab/structure. - Infilling doors and windows with CMU block as directed by the House Mover. - Engaging a qualified 'House Mover' subcontractor for the intact relocation of the masonry structure approximately 0.6 miles. - Restoring the structure at its new site. Additional tasks include: - Preparing a clear move route (including tree trimming and utility line adjustments). - Site work at the receiving location (clearing, grading, foundation preparation). - Shimming and supporting the relocated structure on its new foundation. - Restoring the original site post-move.

Period of Performance

The contract will be performed over a period of ninety (90) calendar days following a 15-day Notice to Proceed period.
