Background

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is responsible for managing programs aimed at reducing the spread of invasive aquatic plants. This contract is part of the DEP's Invasive Aquatic Species Program (IASP), which evaluates, manages, and prevents the spread of newly discovered invasive aquatic plants. The goal is to effectively eradicate invasive species to protect waterbodies and prevent downstream infestations.

Work Details

The contract involves the control and management of invasive aquatic plants, specifically U. inflata and N. minor, in Lake Arrowhead. The work will include manual removal using a diver-assisted suction harvester (DASH), which allows divers to remove large volumes of plants by hand and transport them via suction hose to a collection bag. Additional methods may include benthic barriers and hand pulling. Lake Arrowhead Conservation Council (LACC) is the sole contractor with the necessary equipment and expertise for this task.

Period of Performance

The contract is set to begin on June 15, 2026, and will end on December 31, 2026.

Place of Performance

The work will be performed in Lake Arrowhead, Maine.

Bidder Requirements

The selected vendor, LACC, must have certified SCUBA divers who are OSHA compliant and trained in identifying and removing invasive aquatic plants. LACC has extensive experience in managing invasive species in Maine since 2006.
