Kent Street Park Design

Background

The City of Akron, Ohio is seeking qualified Engineering Consultants to provide professional engineering design services for the development of a new neighborhood park on approximately 1.37 acres of publicly owned property along the Little Cuyahoga River in the Middlebury neighborhood. The site is located at the corner of Case Avenue and Kent Street and currently consists of open grassy areas, mature trees, river frontage, and remnants of stonework dating to the mid-19th century. The project aims to create a passive-use park that celebrates the area's history, prioritizing scenic enjoyment, informal gathering spaces, historical monuments, and safety improvements. EPA funding has been secured for the design and construction of this project.

Work Details

The scope of work includes: - Preparation of conceptual park design and estimate. - Walking paths and trails for safe visitor movement. - Picnic areas with seating for scenic views. - Open grassy areas for flexible use. - Fishing access or water-adjacent spaces where feasible. - An overlook for the river integrating existing 1850s stonework. - Installation of trash cans, dog waste disposal stations, and bike service stations. - Research into historical resources in the Middlebury Neighborhood for interpretive and educational elements reflecting local history.

Period of Performance

The anticipated schedule for this project is from July 2026 to June 2027.

The contract will be performed at a publicly owned property along the Little Cuyahoga River in the Middlebury neighborhood of Akron, Ohio.

Bidder Requirements

Consultants must demonstrate safety qualifications. They should provide a maximum 4-page qualifications package including firm background, project lead experience in park projects, relevant work examples, project approach, staff capacity to perform work timely relative to current workload, and reasons why they are suitable partners for this project.
