The Berrien County GIS Department is seeking bids for the Michigan-Indiana State Line Remonumentation Project. This project is anticipated to be funded through the Michigan-Indiana State Line Remonumentation Act (2022 PA 81). The Michigan-Indiana State Line Commission was established to oversee the recovery, survey, remonumentation, and documentation of the monuments defining the Michigan-Indiana State Line. The goal of this contract is to perform necessary surveying and remonumentation services to satisfy grant agreement requirements and comply with applicable state laws and professional surveying practices.
The Contractor shall perform a retracement survey of the 1827 Federal Survey establishing the Michigan-Indiana State Line and shall recover, perpetuate, and remonument the mileposts and meander posts located within Berrien County. The project includes Mile Posts 0 through 31 and Two (2) Meander Posts, totaling thirty-four (34) monument locations. Specific services include: A. Retracement Survey: 1. Complete retracement survey of the 1827 Federal Survey; 2. Research historical records; 3. Recover existing monumentation. B. Remonumentation: 1. Perpetuate/remonument mileposts; 2. Confirm monument locations with Indiana; 3. Coordinate with relevant commissions; 4. Replace existing monuments as needed. C. Monument Specifications: Furnish all monument materials including a minimum 3/4-inch diameter by 3-foot iron pipe with stamped survey caps. D. Documentation: Obtain witness ties, document coordinates, complete Land Corner Recordation Certificates (LCRC), resolve discrepancies, meet with commissions as necessary. E. Recordation and Submission: File LCRCs for each monument, submit copies to relevant authorities, provide final reports on survey findings. F. Progress Reporting: Quarterly progress reports to be provided throughout the project.
The contract work is expected to be completed by September 20, 2027.
The work will be performed within Berrien County, Michigan.
Bidders must be Professional Surveyors licensed in the State of Michigan, demonstrate experience with Public Land Survey System retracement surveys and monumentation projects, possess sufficient staff and equipment for timely completion of the project, and maintain all required insurance and professional liability coverage.
