Atkinson Elementary HVAC Changeout Phase 2

Background

Henderson County Capital Projects is seeking proposals for the Atkinson Elementary HVAC Changeout Phase 2 project. The goal of this contract is to replace existing P-Tac style HVAC units at Atkinson Elementary School in Hendersonville, North Carolina. This ensures that the new systems are fully functional and compliant with all relevant regulations. The project is part of the ongoing efforts to improve facilities within the Henderson County Public Schools system.

Work Details

The scope of work includes: - Replacement of current P-Tac style HVAC units with new units as per engineered drawings. - Maintaining existing HVAC equipment until new units are operational. - Installation of new HVAC units in designated areas. - Mandatory factory commissioning and startup of the units. - Securing hot water lines after installation. - Terminating wiring in junction boxes and removing existing conduit. - Legal disposal of recovered units and refrigerants. - Securing wall openings post-removal. - Constructing permanent wall enclosures using 8-inch blocks. Additional requirements include installing carbon monoxide detectors integrated into the existing fire alarm system, which must be handled by certified technicians. The contractor must also provide a superintendent on-site during work, ensure compliance with safety protocols, and manage all logistics related to debris, utilities, and site conditions.

Period of Performance

The project is expected to commence following the pre-bid meeting on June 16, 2026, with substantial completion required by a date specified in the contract. Liquidated damages of $1,000 per day will apply for delays beyond this date.

The work will be performed at Atkinson Elementary School located at 2510 Old Kanuga Rd., Hendersonville, North Carolina 28792.

Bidder Requirements

Bidders must be licensed North Carolina General Contractors and attend a mandatory pre-bid meeting. Proposals must include: - A copy of the contractor's license. - A sub list and schedule. - Proof of insurance (COI). - W-9 form. - Compliance with MWBE participation goals if applicable. A payment and performance bond for 100% of the base bid is required for proposals over $300,000. Bids exceeding $500,000 require a bid bond equal to at least 5% of the gross amount.
