Work Details

The contractor will be responsible for the following major units of work: 1. Repointing damaged and deteriorated mortar and caulked joints, specifically targeting joints exhibiting cracks, voids, or deterioration of 1/4" wide or greater. The contractor must hold a preconstruction meeting to review procedures and scope of work. All work must comply with National Park Service (NPS) standards. 1.a. Remove existing spalled brick where deterioration is 1/4" or greater in depth or width and replace with new bricks that match the existing in color, size, and texture; a sample panel of ten replaced bricks must be provided for approval before full work commences. 1.b. Clean all masonry, stone, and concrete on the entire building facade to remove dirt and organic material for a uniform appearance using NPS standards. 2. At vertical masonry joints at parapets, cornices, sills, etc., rake back existing mortar by 1/2" and provide sealant as per details and NPS standards where joint openings or cracks are 1/4" or greater in width or where existing sealant has failed. 3. Inspect existing masonry sill units for damage; repair or replace where cracking, spalling, or material loss is 1/4" or greater.

Period of Performance

The contract period will commence upon issuance of a Start Work Order by the City of Topeka Project Manager. The work is expected to be substantially completed within a specified timeframe that will be detailed in the final agreement.
