Background
The Cadillac Rest Area Digital Sign Replacement project is initiated by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to enhance communication and information dissemination at the rest area located on NB US 131 in Cadillac, Michigan. The goal is to replace the existing sign with a modern electronic sign that provides real-time updates and information to travelers.
Work Details
The contractor will furnish and install a complete single-sided Daktronics model # GS6-60x75-15.85 marquee display, which is a full-color outdoor LED sign measuring 44” tall by 50” wide, with a housing depth not exceeding 5”. The installation includes a time and temperature feature. The contractor will also bury a 3/4” conduit 12” deep from the electrical box located at the NW corner of the truck parking lot to the sign location, approximately 200 feet away. This section requires hand digging due to existing infrastructure. Additionally, wiring (3 wires of 12 ga THHN) must be installed from the outdoor box to an interior panel approximately 150 feet away. A 20-amp GFI plug will be placed on the back of the sign along with an outdoor-rated power switch for the display board. The sign base will be constructed using cultured stone (Owens-Corning CSV 2084 Earth River Rock or equal) with specific design requirements including a bear paw motif facing traffic. Site restoration after construction is required, ensuring it is equal to or better than its original condition, including reseeding disturbed soil with Highway Mix (TDS). All necessary permits and inspections are the responsibility of the contractor.
