Gallup Trails+ Grant: Trail System Design and Signage Project

A recent meeting document Gallup - City Council Agenda - 2026-06-09 indicates a future potential acquisition The City of Gallup was awarded a $25,000 Trails+ Grant by the NM Outdoor Recreation Department in FY22 to develop multiple trail systems within Gallup by utilizing volunteer youth associated with several area schools. Due to leadership changes and a lack of volunteers, the project was delayed and the scope of work has been amended. The current amended grant agreement allows the city to continue with the grant by extending the timeframe and adjusting the scope of work. The new scope includes designing a trail system at Hozho Academy Charter School that connects to the Sports Complex, mapping (both digitally and in paper format) some of the existing trails, replacing aging trail signage, and installing trail head kiosks. This work may require outside vendors for trail design, mapping (including GIS or digital mapping services), signage manufacturing and installation, and kiosk construction.
