Background
The City of Aurora is seeking proposals from qualified masonry contractors to perform tuckpointing and mortar-joint restoration services at the City-owned facility located at 21 S. Broadway, Aurora, IL 60505. The goal of this contract is to restore the exterior masonry to ensure a durable and uniform finish.
Work Details
The contractor shall provide all labor, materials, equipment, and supervision required to perform tuckpointing and mortar-joint restoration on designated wall areas. The work includes:
Mortar Removal
Remove deteriorated mortar to a minimum depth of 3/4 inch using hand tools or low-vibration mechanical tools.
Joint Cleaning
Clean joints with oil-free compressed air and dampen with clean water before new mortar installation.
New Mortar Requirements
Mortar mix must match existing conditions and comply with ASTM C270 for Type N.
Tuckpointing Installation
Pack new mortar tightly into joints in layers not exceeding 3/8 inch.
Brick Replacement
Replace any damaged bricks with matching ones.
Final Cleaning
Clean masonry surfaces using non-acidic methods after curing.
Period of Performance
The contract will commence upon execution and acceptance of the bid and will remain in effect until the work has been completed and accepted by the City.
