Slcsd Transportation Bus Center Canopy Bird Control And Avian Exclusion Project

Background

The Salt Lake City School District (SLCSD) is issuing this solicitation to find a qualified contractor for a comprehensive bird mitigation and avian exclusion solution at the Transportation Department's bus station. The goal is to address recurring bird activity that has led to sanitation concerns and operational impacts, including nesting and droppings accumulation beneath the center canopy structure.

Work Details

The contractor will provide a complete, turnkey solution that includes: - Bird wire exclusion systems to prevent perching on treated surfaces. These systems must be commercial-grade, properly tensioned, securely attached, corrosion-resistant, and maintain a professional appearance. Installation locations include horizontal ledges, beam edges, structural framing, and light supports. - Bird netting systems to physically prevent bird entry into protected areas beneath the canopy. These must be UV resistant, weather resistant, professionally tensioned and secured, and maintain a neat appearance. - Cleaning and sanitation services prior to installation of exclusion systems which include removal of droppings, nesting materials, feathers, and debris while adhering to OSHA and environmental safety requirements. - Application of a sanitation coating or surface treatment post-cleaning to reduce contamination concerns compatible with existing materials.

Period of Performance

The anticipated project commencement is July 20, 2026, pending Board approval. The contract will cover the duration necessary to complete the work as specified in the solicitation.

Place of Performance

The work will be performed at the Salt Lake City School District Transportation Department located at 1745 West 1700 South, Salt Lake City, Utah 84104.

Bidder Requirements

Bidders must attend a mandatory site visit on June 16, 2026. They must demonstrate experience in commercial avian exclusion projects of similar size and complexity. Compliance with wildlife protection regulations is required. Bidders must provide manufacturer specifications for proposed systems and warranty documentation.
