Background

The Department of Education and Early Development (DEED), Division of Innovation and Education Excellence, is launching a Principal Registered Apprenticeship program in partnership with Alaska School Districts, the University of Alaska Anchorage, and the University of Alaska Southeast. The goal is to provide high-quality mentor support for Principal Apprentices during their training program. This RFP seeks a contractor to deliver essential training and mentorship services to ensure effective support for district mentors and principal apprentices.

Work Details

The selected contractor will provide: 1. 15 hours of high-quality training on mentorship for district mentors, including: - Evidence-based or best practice mentor training for up to 8 Principal Mentors. - Tools and resources to support effective mentoring. - Incorporation of apprenticeship requirements. - In-person fall training delivered in partnership with DEED. - Ongoing coaching for mentors throughout the year. 2. At least 4 hours of training on teacher retention strategies for school leaders, covering: - Current Alaska teacher turnover landscape. - Strategies from the Alaska Teacher Retention and Recruitment Playbook. - Effective strategies for surveying teachers and implementing results. 3. Direct mentor services for up to four principal apprentices where needed, including: - Formal observations and weekly check-ins with apprentices. - Coordination with district contacts on competency evaluations.

Period of Performance

The contract will commence approximately in July 2026 and conclude by June 30, 2027, with four optional one-year renewals at the discretion of the State.

Place of Performance

Services will be performed in various locations across participating school districts in Alaska, with specific site visits as needed.

Bidder Requirements

Offerors must demonstrate prior experience as follows: - Five years as a Principal or School Leader. - Five years in Principal training, mentorship, or professional development. Subcontractors must also meet these experience requirements if involved in training or mentoring activities.
