Work Details

The contract with MaineHealth (Maine Medical Center) involves a study focused on medical interventions that can accelerate the reduction of body burdens of PFAS. The work includes: 1) Assembling panels of medical professionals and patients to review and vet a protocol for administering Cholestyramine, covering stipends for panel members and contractor time; 2) Compiling clinical data from individuals treated with Cholestyramine, analyzing this data, and preparing a report on findings; 3) Preparing reports and a manuscript for scientific peer review and dissemination. The goal is to provide information for Maine clinicians treating patients with elevated PFAS exposure.

Period of Performance

The contract is set to commence on October 1, 2025, and will conclude on January 31, 2027.

Place of Performance

The services will be performed in Portland, ME, where MaineHealth (Maine Medical Center) is located.

Bidder Requirements

The vendor selection was justified as a single source due to their unique qualifications in administering Cholestyramine treatment protocols for PFAS body burden reduction. No other hospitals have approved similar protocols in Maine.
