Background

The University of Kansas (KU) is seeking proposals for on-call tree removal and stump grinding services across its various properties, including KU-Lawrence, KU-Edwards, KU-Medical Center, and the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center. The goal of this contract is to ensure safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible tree management on university-owned lands.

Work Details

The selected suppliers will provide the following services: 1. **Tree Removal**: Removal of dead, diseased, hazardous, storm-damaged, and unwanted trees; removal in sensitive environments such as near buildings and utility corridors. 2. **Stump Grinding**: Grinding stumps to a specified depth; removal of surface roots; backfilling with grindings or clean soil as required. 3. **Debris Removal**: Disposal of all wood, brush, and debris; chipping and hauling materials; optional log retention by KU. 4. **Site Restoration**: Filling stump holes with soil or grindings; leveling disturbed areas; providing grass as needed to restore the area. 5. **Emergency Services**: Providing emergency tree removal services for storm damage or fallen trees blocking access points within 2-24 hours depending on severity. 6. **Utility Coordination**: Coordination with KU for utility locating services before stump grinding or excavation.

Period of Performance

The contract period is from September 1, 2026, to August 31, 2029, with two options for one-year renewals.

Place of Performance

Services will be performed at various locations owned by the University of Kansas including Lawrence (KS), Overland Park (KS), Kansas City (KS), and Hutchinson (KS).

Bidder Requirements

Bidders must have at least five years of experience in commercial or municipal tree services and must employ an ISA Certified Arborist. They must also provide proof of insurance including general liability ($1 million per occurrence), workers' compensation at statutory limits, auto liability ($1 million), and umbrella/excess liability ($2 million). Additionally, bidders must submit a current State of Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate if their bid exceeds $25,000.
