Background

The County of Hawai'i is issuing this Invitation for Bid (IFB) for the East Hawai‘i Regional Sort Station Loadout Area Expansion, Job No. SW-4847, located at 1651 Hoolaulima Road, Hilo, Hawai'i. The project aims to expand the existing sort station by adding a second waste loadout area. This includes necessary repairs to the existing loadout chute along with mechanical and electrical components as specified in the plans and specifications.

Work Details

The project consists of various construction tasks including: 1. Mobilization and Demobilization 2. Temporary erosion and sediment controls 3. General site work including pre-construction survey and site clearing 4. Selective demolition of existing sort station components 5. Excavation, backfills, and grading with suitable fill importation 6. Construction of concrete retaining walls and grade adjustment walls 7. Installation of concrete columns and slabs-on-grade at specified elevations 8. Expansion of metal building structures 9. Installation of an industrial wastewater handling system 10. Electrical system installation including connections to existing systems 11. Compaction testing for aggregates and asphalt pavement 12. Concrete sampling and testing, special inspections, field office setup, and relocation.

Period of Performance

The contract work is to be completed within 365 consecutive calendar days from the date specified in a written order by the Director.

The work will be performed at the East Hawai‘i Regional Sort Station located at 1651 Hoolaulima Road, Hilo, Hawai'i.

Bidder Requirements

Bidders must possess a valid State of Hawai‘i General Engineering Contractor License 'A' or a Building Contractor’s License 'B'. Additionally, bidders are required to comply with various state regulations regarding tax clearance, unemployment insurance, workers' compensation, temporary disability insurance, prepaid health care, and must be registered to do business in Hawaii.
