This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in FAR Part 12. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation. Quotations are being requested and a separate written solicitation will not be issued. Solicitation number 12444326Q0029 is issued as a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for the procurement of one (1) tow-behind tire road packer for use in aggregate road maintenance operations on National Forest System roads. The tow-behind rubber tire road packer will be operated behind a motor grader to compact freshly graded road surfaces. This acquisition is set-aside for small business concerns. The applicable North American Industry Classification Standard Code is 333120 The small business size standard is 1,250 employees. This acquisition is a Total Small Business Set-Aside. Background The U.S. Forest Service, Gila National Forest, is seeking to procure one (1) tow-behind tire road packer for use in aggregate road maintenance operations on National Forest System roads. The goal of this contract is to enhance the efficiency of road maintenance by utilizing a specialized piece of equipment that can compact freshly graded road surfaces effectively. Work Details The contractor shall furnish and deliver one (1) tow-behind tire road packer with the following specifications: - Designed for operation behind a motor grader during gravel road maintenance operations. - Compatible with both Caterpillar 140 and Caterpillar 150 type motor graders. - Minimum 90-inch compaction width. - Independent walking beam suspension system allowing the compactor to follow uneven road surfaces. - Oscillating frame or twin sub-frame design capable of maintaining tire contact across variable road contours. - Minimum twelve (12) smooth rubber roller tires, approximately 7.50 × 15 in size. - Overall weight sufficient to provide effective kneading compaction (approximately 3,500 – 4,500 lbs). - Structural frame designed for heavy-duty road maintenance operations. Additionally, the packer must include: - A quick-attach mounting system compatible with Caterpillar motor grader ripper assemblies. - A hydraulic accumulator system designed for operation in uneven terrain to absorb shock loads during compaction. - An articulating hitch assembly allowing the compactor to follow the motor grader during turns.
