Background The National Park Service (NPS) is issuing this Invitation for Bid (IFB) to replace the septic system at the Knife River Historic Indian Village Visitor Center. The existing sanitary plumbing infrastructure has been problematic since its installation in 1992, leading to public health and safety concerns due to frequent backups and damage within the facility. This project aims to address these issues by replacing outdated plumbing systems and ensuring compliance with modern standards. Work Details The contractor will be responsible for replacing all exterior sanitary plumbing infrastructure associated with the Visitor Center building, as well as select indoor plumbing piping. Key tasks include: - Replacement of interior sewer piping on both floors of the building. - Reworking the exterior lift station and valve vault, including installation of new interior and electrical components interfaced with the existing system. - Installation of a new exterior septic system, which includes septic tanks, cleanouts, distribution boxes, absorption trenches, etc. - Addressing issues related to existing internal pipes that fail to evacuate solids effectively, leading to backups. The project also involves correcting discrepancies between as-built drawings and actual conditions. Period of Performance The contractor is expected to begin work within 10 calendar days after receiving the notice to proceed and complete all work within 120 calendar days.
