Canopy Children’s School Playground Expansion and Fencing Project

A recent meeting document Hattiesburg - Planning Commission Agenda - 2026-05-13 indicates a future potential acquisition The Mississippi Children’s Home Society has requested to alter a platted subdivision known as 'Fortieth Place Subdivision- Phase 1' for a property located at 121 Lundy Lane (PPIN 20977, Lamar County, Ward 3) in order to add a new playground to the existing Canopy Children’s School Campus. The project involves the proposed addition of fencing around the property and expansion of a play area to the property adjacent to the south that was purchased (portion of a lot in a platted subdivision). The fencing is proposed to be black aluminum fence panels, with a maximum height of 8 ft (6 ft recommended), and will meet code. The project also requires consideration of a drainage easement on the NW portion of the property, and the installation of a Knox Box for fire department access. The process includes a public hearing for plat alteration, site plan review, and subsequent City Council approval. Once approved, the updated plat will need to be filed, and the site plan review will address the minor subdivision. This type of project typically requires outside vendors for construction, fencing installation, site preparation, and potentially playground equipment procurement and installation. The estimated cost is currently TBD, but the scope suggests a significant procurement for construction and related services.
