Summary (Newest Update)

Background The USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is issuing this solicitation to procure genomic DNA extractions and whole genome sequencing services for 2,000 rainbow trout samples. The goal of the contract is to support research in aquaculture by providing high-quality genomic data, which will aid in the understanding and improvement of fish breeding and health. This acquisition is specifically set aside for small business concerns. Work Details The contractor shall provide all services, supplies, equipment, and facilities necessary to perform the following tasks: 1. Conduct DNA extractions from fin tissues of 2,000 rainbow trout samples stored in 95% ethanol. 2. Perform low-coverage whole genome sequencing using Illumina technology with a minimum output of 1.2 Gbases per sample from quality-filtered paired-end reads. 3. Implement quality control measures throughout the process, including DNA quality checks using Qubit or similar instruments, library preparation with standard Illumina protocols, and documentation of QC procedures in the final project report. 4. Return all unused portions of tissue samples to the government upon completion of the project. Deliverables include DNA sequence files in FASTQ format, all unused tissue samples, and a comprehensive Final Project Report detailing DNA extraction processes, QC results, library preparations, sequencing outcomes, and summary data for each sample. Period of Performance June 01, 2026 – September 30, 2026 Place of Performance USDA-ARS-NEA Cool and Cold Water Aquaculture, 11861 Leetown Road, Kearneysville, WV 25430
