Background

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is seeking proposals from qualified firms to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the existing Vasona Corridor signal system and provide full engineering design services for upgrades. The current system utilizes the AFTAC II train detection and Electrocode DC systems, managed by the Vital Harmon Logic Controller (VHLC). The goal is to enhance safety and efficiency in coordination with Union Pacific Railroad freight trains while considering future upgrades across the VTA system.

Work Details

The selected contractor will be responsible for: 1. Conducting a thorough assessment of the existing signal system. 2. Preparing complete Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) for the signal system upgrades. 3. Providing support services during the bidding and construction phases of the project. 4. Documenting assumptions regarding future car specifications throughout the design process, especially concerning new onboard technologies for positive train control.

Period of Performance

The contract will commence on the Effective Date and continue until a specified date unless terminated earlier.

Place of Performance

The work will be performed within the Vasona Corridor, which includes light rail areas shared with Union Pacific Railroad.
