Background

The City of Seattle is updating its ADUniverse website to include new pre-approved plans for accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and middle housing, which are now permitted throughout Seattle's residential zones. This initiative aims to enhance housing options in the city and invites designers, architects, and homebuilders to submit their designs that meet specific criteria outlined in the Submission Guide.

Work Details

Designers are required to submit plans for ADUs and middle housing that fulfill the following criteria: - Accessible units that meet accessibility requirements, including single-story designs and universal design features. - A range of unit sizes with one, two, and three bedrooms, particularly encouraging designs with at least two bedrooms. - Flexibility in design for single detached units and duplexes to allow modifications for multiple unit sizes. - Inclusion of garage and storage options, focusing on designs that may or may not require off-street parking. - Amenity spaces that comply with updated Neighborhood Residential legislation, including features like porches and balconies. - Designs must be affordable to construct, energy-efficient, easy to live in, creative in form and design, and contextually compatible with Seattle's residential neighborhoods. Submissions should include detailed floor plans, building sections, elevations, three-dimensional views, major materials list, mechanical systems list, site adaptability diagrams, and various design options.
