Background The National Park Service (NPS) is issuing a solicitation for seasonal mowing and grounds maintenance services at Carlsbad Caverns National Park. The goal of this contract is to ensure the preservation of the park's landscape while providing a safe and enjoyable environment for visitors. This requirement is a 100% total small business set-aside. Work Details The contractor shall provide all labor, supervision, equipment, fuel, materials, tools, transportation, and incidentals necessary to perform mowing services at Carlsbad Caverns National Park. All work must adhere to NPS standards for landscape preservation, safety, and environmental protection. Specific tasks include: 1. **Picnic Area – Developed Landscape**: - Area: 84,291 SF - Frequency: Up to six mowings annually between April 15 and September 15 (work hours: 8 AM - 4 PM). - Tasks include mowing turf areas within picnic grounds, careful mowing around mature cottonwood trees, trimming around tables and walkways, removing clippings from hard surfaces, and avoiding scalping or root damage to established trees. 2. **Main Entrance Road – Walnut Canyon Road**: - Extent: 7 miles × 2 sides - Frequency: Two mowings per year (one in June/July and one in October/November). - Tasks include mowing road shoulders along both sides of the entrance road with a consistent cut width of 4 feet, preventing encroachment that impacts visibility or drainage, and removing clippings from pavement as necessary. Traffic control measures must be implemented due to significant daily visitation. Period of Performance The period of performance for this contract is from June 1, 2026, through May 31, 2027.
