Background

The Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation (GLS) is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the U.S. portion of the St. Lawrence Seaway, which is critical for navigation and commerce. This contract aims to ensure the operational readiness of miter gate drive gearboxes used in navigational locks, which are essential for the movement of large vessels. The agency intends to enter a contract on a basis other than full and open competition due to unique requirements that can only be met by a specific contractor.

Work Details

The contractor, Timken Gears & Services, Inc. (formerly Philadelphia Gear), will provide all labor, materials, and expertise necessary to: 1. Replace all internal gearing and associated components for two miter gate drive operating gearboxes; 2. Reassemble the complete gearbox assemblies; 3. Perform inspection and testing to ensure operational readiness. The existing gearbox casings will be refurbished and reused, requiring that all replacement components meet exact dimensional and performance requirements to integrate with the existing infrastructure.

Period of Performance

The period of performance for this contract will extend through April 30, 2027, with both gearboxes required to be completed by this date.

Place of Performance

The work will be performed at GLS's facilities located in Massena, New York.
