Summary (Newest Update)

Background The Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Montana State Office is soliciting quotes for the removal and replacement of three existing iron filtration units, replacement of exhausted filter media, rehabilitation of associated treatment components, and reactivation of the system to restore proper operation of the drinking water facility. This project addresses deficiencies identified by the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), which found that the treatment plant is not functioning as designed due to unmaintained and underperforming equipment. The system was originally designed to remove iron through aeration followed by treatment in three pressure sand filters, with subsequent chlorination prior to entering the clearwell. Current conditions indicate ineffective iron and manganese removal processes, leading to elevated concentrations of manganese and iron in the water supply. The project aims to restore proper treatment performance and stabilize disinfection processes. Work Details The work includes: 1) Removal and replacement of three existing iron filtration units; 2) Replacement of exhausted filter media; 3) Rehabilitation of associated treatment components; 4) Reactivation of the system to restore proper operation; 5) Evaluation and rehabilitation or replacement of hydropneumatic tanks; 6) Startup procedures including verification of aeration and backwash functionality; 7) Adjustment of air eductor settings; 8) Confirmatory sampling to ensure treatment objectives and regulatory requirements are met. Period of Performance The contract will be performed from May 11, 2026, to June 30, 2026. Place of Performance 3039 Highway 312, Pompey’s Pillar, MT 59064, Yellowstone County, Montana.
