Background

The Alaska Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) is seeking proposals for a Special Education (SPED) Administrative Coach. The mission of this role is to provide on-site and distance delivery technical assistance to support schools and districts in enhancing systems and structures that improve special education student achievement. The SPED Administrative Coach will collaborate with Alaska’s directors and coordinators to assess district and school needs, designing interventions based on educational research.

Work Details

The SPED Administrative Coach will provide the following services: 1. Develop, implement, and sustain school improvement efforts related to special education. 2. Assist in aligning district procedures with Alaska State Regulations. 3. Increase data systems literacy and the use of data for informing district procedures. 4. Develop structures that support quality education and effective interventions for all students. 5. Promote student access to meaningful exposure in all content areas. 6. Foster a positive school climate attentive to local culture. 7. Foster staff collaboration. 8. Align professional development policies with resources and academic goals. 9. Develop special education administrators as instructional leaders using tools, goal setting, and school-wide initiatives. 10. Provide training specific to compliance monitoring findings.

Period of Performance

The contract will commence on July 1, 2026, with an initial term lasting until June 30, 2027, followed by four optional renewal terms each lasting one year.

Place of Performance

The work will be performed across various districts throughout the state of Alaska, requiring travel based on district needs as determined by DEED.

Bidder Requirements

Offerors must have special education or related service certification, a minimum of five years working in rural/remote Alaska, and at least five years in a mentoring capacity.
