Background The US Army Corps of Engineers has a requirement at the Dresden Lock and Dam, in support of the Illinois Waterway Project Office. The goal of this contract is to supply and deliver a catwalk system for the generator at this location, which is necessary for safe and efficient repairs and maintenance. Work Details The contractor shall supply and deliver a catwalk system with the following specifications: 1. 60" OSHA-compliant industrial stair. 2. (2) 48" x 192" platforms. 3. (1) 48" x 168" platform. 4. U-shaped platform layout. 5. The catwalk shall measure 48" high from the concrete to the walking surface. 6. Grip strut decking for slip resistance. 7. Constructed of mill finish aluminum extrusions and mill finish aluminum sheet, with extrusions being either 6061-T6 or 6063-T52, and all aluminum sheet being 5052-H32. 8. Two-line guardrail with a top rail not exceeding 42" high from the walking surface, and an intermediate rail midway between the walking surface and top rail. 9. Handrails on both sides of all stairs with a clearance of 40" between handrails, designed to be 36" high from the tip of the step nosing to the top of the rail. 10. Stair treads designed for uniform depth of 9-1/2" and height of either 7", 7-1/2", or 8", with an angle of rise between 30 and 50 degrees from horizontal. 11. All risers open between treads, designed to withstand a concentrated load of 200 pounds on guardrails, and walking surfaces carrying a uniform live load of 100 pounds per square foot.
