WESTERN MINES LIDAR SURVEY

Summary (Newest Update)

Background The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Alaska is seeking to conduct a LiDAR survey of mining claims in the Ruby Mining District. This initiative aims to fulfill inventory requirements for the Abandoned Mine Lands (AML) program, focusing on six areas of closed, excluded, and unconveyed federal lands. These areas were previously selected for conveyance by the State but were not transferred due to various encumbrances. The survey will assist in identifying hazardous features and guide future on-ground inventory work, ultimately facilitating cleanup processes and preparing the lands for potential conveyance to the State of Alaska. Work Details The contractor will perform a LiDAR survey over six groups of closed mining claims within the Ruby Mining District along the Ruby-Poorman Road. The survey aims to generate a comprehensive dataset that identifies structures, vehicles, and landscape contours associated with abandoned mine land features. This data will enable targeted fieldwork by BLM specialists, reducing time and costs associated with on-ground inventories. The survey is expected to help identify hazardous materials and ensure that culturally significant resources are preserved during cleanup efforts. Period of Performance The contract period is from May 25, 2026, to September 1, 2027. Place of Performance The work will be performed in the Ruby Mining District along the Ruby-Poorman Road in Alaska.
