Background The Department of the Navy requires a custom-manufactured, aviation-grade United States Flag to set the tone for the opening of the International Aerial Review (IAR) in commemoration of the Nation's 250th birthday. This flag will be the largest known flag to fly over New York City. The flag is engineered to be towed by a U.S. Marine Corps MH-53 helicopter and will be tested to withstand extreme dynamic loads and drag associated with rotary-wing flight operations. Work Details The contractor will manufacture and deliver one oversized, aviation-grade U.S. Flag with the following specifications: - Design: Standard 50-Star United States Flag. - Dimensions: 130 feet by 216 feet. - Material: High-strength, tear-resistant, aviation-grade fabric capable of sustaining continuous flight at speeds exceeding 60 knots without fraying or tearing. - Estimated Weight: 400 lbs or less, secured in a container suitable for forklift handling and long-term storage. - Rigging & Hardware: Includes reinforced header, heavy-duty grommets/D-rings, cabling, and bottom ballast/weighting systems for attachment to an MH-53 cargo hook system.
