Dilution Refrigerator for Quantum Sensing

Summary (Newest Update)

Background The Company seeks to procure a cryogenic system based on a dilution refrigerator capable of continuously maintaining temperatures below 10mK. This refrigerator will provide dedicated cryogenic infrastructure supporting workforce development and research in superconducting radiofrequency systems, optical device measurement, and quantum device design and development. The system is intended to support training, experimentation, and measurement programs, positioning the Company as a leader in training the next generation of the quantum science and engineering workforce while contributing to research areas such as neutrino physics and quantum systems. Work Details The contract involves the procurement of a cryogen-free dilution refrigerator (DEVICE) that provides continuous cooling at ultra-low temperatures through the dilution process of helium-3-helium-4 mixture in a closed loop environment. Key specifications include: - A large space mixing chamber (MXC) with a flange diameter of 500 mm capable of holding payloads up to 500 kg. - The system must cool from ambient room temperature to base temperature in under 30 hours. - Cooling power requirements: >14 µW at 20 mK and >450 µW at 100 mK. - The DEVICE must operate remotely with fully automated cooldown and warm-up sequences. - It should include all necessary equipment such as pumps, gas handling equipment, and support electronics. - The qubit control system must be FPGA-platform based on AMD’s RFSoC, compatible with Fermilab's Quantum Instrumentation Control Kit (QICK). Wiring must manage high-density RF connections (100 MHz – 10 GHz). Period of Performance The schedule for completion does not extend beyond September 26, 2026. Place of Performance The DEVICE ASSEMBLY will be delivered to the COMPANY SITE located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
