Background The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is operating a groundwater extraction and treatment system to control and remediate impacted groundwater from the Price Landfill Superfund site located in Absecon, New Jersey. The operation began in 2013 and includes a well field with 13 shallow extraction wells and 4 deep extraction wells, along with over 100 monitoring wells. A sinkhole was observed on Showellton Avenue at the site of a former soil boring, which was closed approximately 15 to 20 years ago. Work Details The contractor is required to restore pavement at the sinkhole located at 257 Showellton Avenue, Absecon, New Jersey. The restoration area will extend the width of the roadway and approximately 10 feet beyond the soil borings. The work includes: - Excavating unsuitable material and replacing it with approximately 5 feet of compacted aggregate, overlain by a triaxial geogrid and standard pavement section for the City of Absecon. - The standard pavement section consists of: - 6 inches of soil aggregate - 6 inches of bituminous stabilized base course - 2 inches of bituminous concrete surface course. - Estimated quantities for materials include: - Excavation: Approximately 140 cubic yards (CY) - Aggregate: Approximately 105 cubic yards (CY) - Pavement subgrade: Approximately 16 cubic yards (CY) - Asphalt base course: Approximately 16 cubic yards (CY) - Asphalt surface course: Approximately 5.2 cubic yards (CY). - The contractor must verify all utilities and monitoring wells within and adjacent to the limit of work prior to construction. Any impacts to existing utilities must be repaired, and monitoring wells are to be abandoned according to New Jersey regulations. Period of Performance The period of performance for this contract is expected to be two years from the date of award.
