Summary (Newest Update)

Background The Grey Towers Historic Terraces and Walkway Preservation project is initiated by the agency to restore and rehabilitate the grounds of the Grey Towers National Historic Site in Pike County, Pennsylvania. This site is historically significant as it was the home of Gifford Pinchot, the first Chief of the Forest Service and a two-term Governor of Pennsylvania. The site attracts approximately 15,000-20,000 visitors annually and serves as a regional tourist attraction and conference center. The goal of this contract is to preserve the historical integrity of the site while ensuring its accessibility and aesthetic appeal. Work Details The project encompasses several key construction tasks: 1. Restoration of existing stone pavers at two locations: Marble Court and Star & Diamond Terrace, which includes subgrade preparation and reconstruction. 2. Restoration of walkway stone steps at two locations, also involving subgrade preparation. 3. Rehabilitation of a concrete water feature known as the 'Finger Bowl' and a half-moon shaped pool at Marble Court, which includes cleaning, repointing, applying a thin coat of mortar ('Skim Coat'), and repainting. The work on the half-moon shaped pool is considered incidental to that at Marble Court. 4. Repair of two stone benches located adjacent to the Moat. Quantities for these work items are specified in the Schedule of Items. Place of Performance The construction projects will take place at the Grey Towers National Historic Site located in Pike County, Pennsylvania, specifically at 151 Grey Towers Drive.
