Background The Dan Beard Research Center (DBRC) at Everglades National Park in Homestead, Florida, has not undergone renovations in over 30 years, resulting in several areas failing to meet ADA standards. The facility includes outdated restrooms, employee showers, a breakroom, a conference room, and an archives processing room. Additionally, the building has suffered damage from a hurricane. The DBRC was built in 1963 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as of 2004. Therefore, any renovation work must comply with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act to avoid adverse effects on the historic fabric of the building. Work Details The scope of work includes: 1. **Restrooms**: Renovations to all interior surfaces, openings, floors and ceilings, and updates to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. 2. **Showers**: Demolition of existing showers and construction of new showers with changing areas and new washer/dryer units. 3. **Breakroom**: Renovations to all interior surfaces including kitchen countertops, cabinets, equipment, furnishings, and mechanical systems. 4. **Conference Room**: Expansion into adjacent IT Room space with renovations to surfaces and upgrades to lighting and mechanical systems; coordination with NPS IT for audio-video equipment replacement. 5. **Archives Processing Room**: Expansion into adjacent storage space with removal of a wooden raised floor and ramp; renovations to surfaces and upgrades to lighting and mechanical systems. 6. **Enclosed Screen Porches**: Installation of prefabricated enclosed screened porches. 7. All work must comply with current accessibility and sustainability policies including low-flow plumbing fixtures. Period of Performance The contract work is expected to be completed within 315 days from the award date.
