Summary (Newest Update)

Background The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), specifically the Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC), is responsible for fisheries research in the region. The NEFSC's Ecosystem Surveys Branch (ESB) conducts fisheries-independent surveys to provide data for stock assessments and ecosystem monitoring. This contract aims to support scallop fisheries-independent surveys by deploying autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) to collect optical data necessary for the Atlantic sea scallop stock assessment. Work Details The contractor will perform the following tasks: 1. Pre-mission communication and preparation for AUV(s), including a kickoff meeting, AUV preparation, integration with Autonomous Benthic Imaging Systems (ABIS), and camera calibrations. 2. Conduct AUV optical scallop survey missions, which involves mobilization to launch locations, launching AUV(s), conducting missions to acquire optical seabed data, and retrieving AUV(s) post-mission. 3. Deliver data to NEFSC, including appropriate metadata and imagery data within one week of mission completion. 4. Provide a final report summarizing the AUV mission(s) with relevant maps, statistics, and a closeout meeting with NEFSC personnel. The contractor must ensure all operations are conducted safely and in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Period of Performance The contract work is expected to occur between April 1 and August 31, 2026. Place of Performance The work will be performed in the Mid-Atlantic Bight and at the Northeast Fisheries Science Center located at 166 Water St, Woods Hole, MA.
