Background The City of East Providence, through its Department of Planning & Economic Development, is seeking a qualified transportation engineering firm to develop a Supplemental Action Plan for the Six Corners intersection. This project is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets for All grant program, aimed at enhancing safety for pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and public transit users in the area. The Six Corners intersection is a critical point where Taunton Ave., Waterman Ave., and Broadway converge. It has been identified as a location requiring significant safety improvements due to its history of accidents and complex traffic patterns. Work Details The scope of work includes: 1. Analysis of existing conditions such as traffic patterns, pedestrian and bicycle activity, transit ridership, accident history, and infrastructure conditions. 2. Recommended solutions categorized into two levels: - Level 1: Smaller Scale Recommendations that improve safety without altering the intersection's geometry (e.g., redirecting traffic, enhancing crosswalks/signage). - Level 2: Larger Scale Recommendations involving significant modifications like realigning roads or implementing roundabouts or signalized intersections. The final plan must adhere to the SS4A Self-Certification Eligibility Worksheet to qualify for Implementation Grant funds. Bidder Requirements Bidders are required to demonstrate specialized experience in transportation engineering and familiarity with the Safe Systems approach.
