Summary (Newest Update)

Background The United States Department of the Interior, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, is issuing a contract for the Port Louisa National Wildlife Refuge to repair a damaged and degraded public boat ramp leading to the Mississippi River. The goal of this contract is to ensure the safety and usability of the boat ramp, which has been compromised due to accelerated concrete degradation. This project is crucial for maintaining access to the river for public use and preventing hazards associated with the deteriorating structure. Work Details The contractor will be responsible for the following tasks: - Demolish and remove a damaged concrete and rebar section measuring approximately 8’ x 28’ from the existing boat ramp slab. - Use a backhoe/excavator to prepare the bedding for the new concrete section. - Fabricate a form for the new concrete and span the area with new rebar. - Pour new concrete that is 6 inches in depth using high strength (4,000 psi or greater) concrete, embedding traction bars into the surface. - All materials, equipment, and labor are included in work requirements. The contractor must coordinate with refuge staff to plan work during optimal river conditions, specifically during periods of low river depth. Period of Performance April 13, 2026 — July 3, 2026. Place of Performance Port Louisa National Wildlife Refuge, 10295 120th Street (within ½ mile), Wapello, IA 52653.
