This project includes construction of an asphalt trail connecting the upper visitor center to the lower Acastus Trail and replacement of 36 cmp. Earthwork item includes clearing and grubbing, removing asphalt, excavation and embankment. Remove and conserve existing trail material. Grade and prepare native subbase. Existing trail material is to be conserved and used for shouldering and subgrade of resting pads. Shoulder trail slopes at 1:10 (max) with existing compacted trail material. It is the intention that all existing aggregate materials will remain onsite. Aggregate base shall be 4 depth below asphalt. Asphalt trail shall have 6' width, 3 depth and 2% cross slope (max). Aggregate base, asphalt and concrete testing per FP-24. Resting pads shall be asphalt with 4' width, 6' length, 3 depth and 2% cross slope (max) in all directions. Resting pads aggregate base shall be compacted with water. Concrete curb shall be NDOT Type 5. Spillway to culvert inlet is inclusive to curb. Concrete curb may be placed on compacted aggregate base. Native subbase shall be compacted with water. The grade will be inspected for soft spots and accepted before concrete placement. Backfill to top of curb with native material. Corrugated metal pipe item includes submitting a proposed pipe plot for placement of 36 culvert. Design for minimum 5% drop. Removal of existing culvert, inlet stacked rock and outlet riprap are inclusive to new culvert placement. All work to extend asphalt trail and shoulders is inclusive to the option items
Background The GAOA 4FO SMCG Trail Renovation project is initiated by the Forest Service, aimed at enhancing visitor access and experience in the Spring Mountain National Recreation Area, part of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The primary goal of this contract is to construct an asphalt trail that connects the upper visitor center to the lower Acastus Trail while replacing a 36-inch corrugated metal pipe (cmp). This project is crucial for maintaining infrastructure and ensuring safe access for visitors. Work Details The scope of work includes: - Construction of an asphalt trail with a width of 6 feet and a depth of 3 inches, featuring a maximum cross slope of 2%; - Earthwork tasks such as clearing, grubbing, removing existing asphalt, excavation, and embankment; - Conservation and reuse of existing trail materials for shouldering and subgrade of resting pads; - Grading and preparation of native subbase; - Installation of resting pads measuring 4 feet by 6 feet with similar specifications to the trail; - Concrete curb installation using NDOT Type 5 standards, including backfilling with native material; - Submission of a proposed pipe plot for the placement of a new 36-inch culvert with a minimum design drop of 5%; - Removal of existing culverts and associated materials; - Aggregate base installation at a depth of 4 inches below asphalt; and - Compliance with testing standards as per FP-24. All work related to extending the asphalt trail and shoulders is included in the contract. Period of Performance The contract will commence in Summer 2026 and is expected to be completed within 120 calendar days from the issuance of the Notice to Proceed (NTP). Place of Performance The construction projects will take place in the Spring Mountain National Recreation Area, located approximately 20 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada.
