Background The State of Hawaiʻi’s Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) is seeking bids for a fence replacement project within the Puʻu Makaʻala Natural Area Reserve (NAR) on Hawaii Island. The goal of this project is to replace ungulate-proof fencing to protect the watershed and unique native ecosystems from feral ungulates, thereby preserving rare and endangered species. The successful bidder will enter into a contract with the State of Hawaiʻi, executed through a Purchase Order (PO). Work Details The contractor will be responsible for replacing approximately 19,800 linear feet (LF) of ungulate-proof fencing across various segments: - Aku Unit: 8,458 LF - Wright Road: 3,960 LF - Kulani Bottom: 2,112 LF - Na Lua Mahoe: 5,280 LF Additional tasks include brushing the fence corridor, installing six pedestrian gates, and removing and disposing of old fence materials. The contractor must provide performance and payment bonds to ensure project completion according to specifications. Installation must adhere to specific guidelines regarding terrain conditions, use of equipment, and environmental protections. Period of Performance The contract term is for 24 months from the date on the Notice to Proceed. Extensions may be granted for up to two additional 12-month periods upon mutual agreement. Place of Performance The work will be performed in the Puʻu Makaʻala Natural Area Reserve on Hawaii Island.
