Background NASA/NSSC has a requirement for Animal Husbandry and Behavioral Testing Services for a NASA Human Research Program. The project titled 'Oxidative Stress and the Neuroconsequences of Spaceflight Environment - Immune Dysfunction and Dietary Countermeasure Efficacy' involves live-animal experiments to study the effects of spaceflight on mice. The University of Kansas Medical Center is determined to be the sole provider for these services due to their specialized expertise in neurological disease models and behavioral testing with rodents, particularly in relation to spaceflight. Work Details The contractor will provide animal husbandry services, including housing for 109 cages of mice (176 mice total) for up to 4 months at a daily rate of approximately $1.10 per cage. Services include food, water, caging materials, cage and room cleaning, daily health checks, and veterinary services. Behavioral testing will include SHIRPA phenotype assessment, sociability and social memory tests, force plate actimetry, grip strength tests, beam walk assessments, elevated zero maze tests, and Barnes maze evaluations.
