Background The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is issuing a contract for the refurbishment of the Airport Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) roof at Kenai Municipal Airport (ENA) in Kenai, AK. The project aims to address significant issues with the existing roof, including leaks that have compromised the integrity of the ATCT cab window seals and caused deterioration of the building's exterior. The goal is to ensure compliance with FAA standards while maintaining operational capabilities during construction. Work Details The contractor will replace approximately 400 Sq. Ft. of EPDM roofing with a minimum twenty-five (25) year warranty and a minimum five (5) year installer warranty. The scope includes: 1. Replacement of the elastomeric roofing membrane (EPDM) with Carlisle FleeceBACK EPDM or equivalent, ensuring compatibility and compliance with wind uplift requirements. 2. Removal and replacement of damaged insulation, vapor barriers, and other roofing components as necessary. 3. Comprehensive painting of the entire exterior of the ATCT and base building using marine-grade paint, including guard rails, catwalks, and sealing joints. 4. Asbestos abatement for existing materials identified as containing asbestos, following federal and local regulations. 5. Ensuring that all work is performed without interrupting air traffic services, requiring careful scheduling and on-site supervision by the contractor's superintendent. 6. Compliance with all applicable codes including IBC, NFPA, ASHRAE, and FAA standards throughout the project.
