Background The G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center, located in Jackson, MS, is seeking to engage qualified diagnostic medical physicists to perform evaluations of various x-ray and imaging devices. The primary objective is to ensure the safe and accurate administration of radiation used in medical diagnostic imaging, which aligns with the facility's mission to provide high-quality healthcare services to veterans. Work Details The contractor shall perform evaluations of all x-ray or imaging devices at the facility, including CT units, gamma cameras, MRI units, rad/fluoro rooms, c-arms, portable x-ray devices, fixed specialty units, shielding design, and CR readers. Specific tasks include: 1) Presenting written reports for each device that identify the device by serial number and functional parameters; 2) Providing reports to the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) within 5 working days post-inspection; 3) Conducting annual inspections of all imaging equipment; 4) Including an Entrance Exposure Chart in reports that plots patient thickness against KVP for a range of KVPs (50 KVP - 120 KVP); 5) Reviewing CT dose optimization and protocol documentation on a calendar basis; 6) Examining x-ray and CT devices prior to first clinical use after repairs or relocations; 7) Performing QA testing of CR readers; 8) Conducting performance evaluations of MRI equipment annually using phantoms; 9) Providing detailed written reports on all evaluations and inspections.
