Background

This Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) is issued by the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command - Soldier Center, aimed at advancing state-of-the-art technologies and increasing knowledge to eliminate current technology barriers. The BAA encompasses various scientific and technical areas of expertise, including combat feeding, soldier protection, textile technologies, modeling and simulation, soldier effectiveness, expeditionary maneuver support, aerial delivery, and simulation and training technology. The goal is to fulfill requirements for scientific study and experimentation that can lead to broader Department of Defense (DoD) applications.

Work Details

The BAA covers a range of tasks and services including: 1. Combat Feeding: Research and development of combat feeding equipment and systems, as well as combat ration research. 2. Soldier Protection: Development of integrated protective equipment, modular personal protection gear, chemical/biological protection systems, countersurveillance technologies, body-worn interactive materials, nanotechnology applications in materials science, advanced protection integration technologies/systems, sound/light/blast management systems for sensory protection. 3. Textile Technologies: Research on multi-functional materials. 4. Modeling and Simulation: Enhancements in operational effectiveness and survivability metrics for individual soldiers and small units. 5. Soldier Effectiveness: Development of body-worn systems and smart electronic components to enhance maneuverability and protection; research on biomechanics, anthropometry, warrior performance optimization; soldier power sources; technology assessment tools; ecological approaches to warfighter survivability; soldier-centric sensors. 6. Expeditionary Maneuver Support: Research on electromagnetic interference protection, environmental protection technologies, energy efficiency solutions for deployment durability. 7. Aerial Delivery: Advanced personnel and cargo airdrop systems development. 8. Simulation and Training Technology: Innovations in live training simulations that replicate battlefield effects including medical simulations; advanced interactive simulations; cyberspace warfare training; adaptive instructional systems; battlespace visualization tools; collaboration with creative technology institutes.

Place of Performance

The work will primarily be conducted at the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Systems Center located at General Greene Avenue, Natick, MA 01760-5020.
